Came across this video tonight from the same guy who made the DIY Leash video. In this episode he’s installing a fish finder onto his kayak. Maybe we’ll have to get him on the show!

I mounted my transducer on a pole that can be raised out of water for landing, etc and thus is also removable with the unit. A side advantage one can play with aiming the sonic signals direction. Some what out in front is good, you see what u are comming up to not what you have passed over. Then used a battery pack from a 12v power tool -anyone will give more than enough power for weeks of fishing without recharging. Made plug-in to fishfinder power line. I put it in a ziplock bag on the water, as salt( where I fish) and batteries do not get along well.
I have used RC - planes/boats etc 12v power supplies, much smaller footprint and much lighter. That time I velcroed the battery to the back of the unit. Just does not last as long. But still many days of fishing between having to recharge. A very compact removable unit.
