The show’s keep getting better! Tonight we got an update on the Outdoor Retailers show from Ruben Garza. He previewed a lot of new boats (a new Tarpon 120 that’s 20 lbs lighter!) and accessories for us. Also on the show was Nils Christenson, who runs ultimatekayakfishing.com and is a fixture in the Kayaking community in Connecticut.
Our next show should be available on August 27th, 2007.
Tight Lines,
Alex

1Question about Old Town Polylink3… in regards to a thru-hull transducer (the one with an Eagle 242).
I believe there is a “sandwich” of materials that create the polylink3 hull. Will I need to “carve-back” the first layer to get the transducer to work?

2Brendan,
I saw your question, and started wondering myself. I called Vic Sorenson from Appomatttox River Company, and he pulled out a cross section piece of Polylink. The material is basically semi-porous foam, and is over 1/4″ thick. The issue of thickness may be as big of a deal as the possible air in the sandwiched hull. As for the air pockets, the material is pretty tightly compressed, and should minimize air pockets. If nothing else, with the thickness, the sensitivity should be lowered. I personally would not peel back the hull layering though, for fear of compromising the hull integrity. It’s worth a try… Just use a non-permanent glue first to make sure it works. If it doesn’t, peel the puck off and stick to a suction cup. Drop me a line, to let me know if it works. Vic and I are intrigued now. Thanks!

6Painting a boat used to be a reasonably simple task. All one needed was a fine dry day, one of Dad’s paintbrushes, some turps, a roll of masking tape, a bit of pink primer left over from the decorating and a half gallon of shiny blue enamel paint from the local hardware store…they were the days!
